...and if you outlaw incandescent bulbs I can guarantee you that you will find a huge line being made in USA or Canada.  It's just that the fat cat companies here, like the car companies, had no foresight into green business and now they are paying the price.  Can you find a Prius or other hybrid that gets that good of mileage made in USA or Canada?  Nope, not until very recently.  Trade with China is how our system works.  Unfortunately, we have had less and less to trade...
As for the made in China thing, first, they don't just ship one over at a time.  They ship thousands and thousands in crates on ship with a billion other things so when you break out the actual cost of one bulb I would think it's much less than you think.  This makes it much easier to realize that the savings in electricity usage (great, your hydro-electric, the vast majority of people are not) is by far better for the environment.  I replaced every bulb in my house with...
Someone asked me this and I had an opinion, but not an answer.  So, I'll put it to the group: Situation:  Victorian - 3 floors.  Currently has window units for AC - possibility of putting in Central Air.  Not have AC is NOT an option, although obviously the best. Let's say money is not a concern (but you can add that in if you want).  Needs all three levels covered.   What say you green ones? Jim
Going back to the "does it matter" question, I think it does because the last thing I want to do is reward someone like Lutz who only had $$$ in his eyes.  The points been made that GM could have had them sooner, lobbied agains them and was for the most part not very visionary.   What I don't understand is what was the connection all along with Cars and Gas?  Why were car companies so vehemently opposed to alternative fuels.  They didn't own the fuel companies or...
While I would not go as far as saying it's a myth that the turbines kill birds, it's way overstated.  Yes, there are some areas where the turbines were put up in the migratory path, but that is NOT every single one of them.  In fact, pollution from coal plants has been suggested by many to cause more bird deaths per year than anything else.
I wonder what it will be like when/if  this country actually has 75% of it's electrical needs taken care of by renewable.  Gotta think that along with auto increasing mileage and decreasing use of fuel, we could be totally oil independent by then.  It will be really interesting to see what happens to the oil producing countries when there is less demand.  At some point China is going to pick up on the windturbines/solar (especially if USA is doing it) and it will only...

The last time I spoke with them they said that there will be options for getting battery systems so that you can harness the energy produced for night time use.  They said that they will have a separate insurance/liability policy that will be very cheap.  They pretty much thought of everything.  Crossing my fingers it's for real!!
What about technology getting better at converting the wind power to electricity?  Is that even a possibility or is that maxed out?  Can wind turbines be 65 - 75% efficient rather than 20 - 30%?  Well, I thought  I recalled hearing about breaking the norm with wind turbines and the solution being thrown around is to get off  the ground...literally.   Check this out - http://www.magenn.com/  --  or this one --  http://bexhuff.com/2007/04/wind-turbines-blimps.   Seems to me...
